Tiffany Style Stained Glass Lamps
Each lamp in my gallery represents my passion and skill for lamp art, crafting memorable designs with unique or inspired patterns. Click on the lamp photo for an enlarged view.
Tiffany's Harvard
I designed this lamp based on Tiffany’s Harvard lamp. According to Dr. Neustadt in "The Lamps of Tiffany" book. This lamp is reputed to have been made for the library of Harvard University. I drew the pattern for one panel and then duplicated it for the eight sides of the 20” diameter lamp. I then created the four shields that appear in the alternating panels. The shields are made with Youghiogheny and Kokomo glass. The background was constructed using Laburnum glass from Youghiogheny Opalescent Glass Company. The bottom brass filigree was purchased from Whitmore Durgin, and I used an Odyssey cap, ring, and wheel as mounting hardware.
Spread Wing Dragonfly
This is a 20” replica of the Tiffany Spread Wing Dragonfly lamp. The shade was constructed of Youghiogheny glass on a H. L.Worden 20”-six-section mold and pattern, resulting with a shade diameter of 20” and 8 ½” tall with a 4” aperture. I also used 36 background jewels and wing filigrees purchased from The Youghiogheny glass company.
Nautilus
Tiffany's designs inspired me to create a beautiful Nautilus lamp built from a pattern provided by Texas Glass Masters. I built the lamp without a mold, constructed the base from scratch, that included an authentic coral piece to highlight its organic beauty. This lamp measures 14” tall on an 8” dark wooden base, making it ideal for nightstands and coffee tables.
Sahara Sunset
The Sahara Sunset lamp is a 15” tall original design consisting of a small 6-panel shade with attached filigrees. This shade was constructed using Uroboros and Youghiogheny glass. It measures 8” across the flats and 6” tall. Additionally, the resting camel base was rewired and adjusted to hold the shade. The camel caravan filigrees on the lamp came from a stock photo that was printed onto a toner transfer paper. Then the image was transfered onto a sheet of copper foil using the heat of a household iron. It then was placed into a ferric chloride solution which dissolved off the copper not protected by the transfered photo.
Green Handel Interpretation
The design for this lamp is based on an original Handel lamp that I have seen at a few auctions. I drew the pattern for this 21“ diameter lamp, cut out the pattern pieces, and traced them out onto the glass. I used Kokomo glass for the entire lamp. Kokomo #48 Christmas Green Opal. A full form cone mold from The Whittmore Durgin Company was used to construct this shade. An Odyssey ring and wheel were used as mounting hardware. The base was from a local auction.
Blue Handel Interpretation
The design for this lamp is based on an original Handel lamp that I have seen at a few auctions. I drew the design for this 21" diameter lamp on a full form cone mold from The Whittmore Durgin Company and used Spectrum glass for the entire lamp. Spectrum #633-7S . An Odyssey ring and wheel were used as mounting hardware. The glass seemed too translucent allowing the light bulbs to be seen through the glass when lit. I solved this problem by sandblasting the back side of the glass.
Tiffany Zodiac
This is my interpretation of Tiffany's Zodiac Lamp. This shade is composed of mottled green, brown and blue Youghiogheny glass set with six round green jewels and copper filigree's depicting the twelve Zodiac signs. I scaled the working pattern from an auction catalog photo and drew it directly onto a 20“ diameter full form globe mold from the Whittemore Durgin Company. The Zodiac filigrees were chemically etched out of 4 mil copper sheeting. I slumped the large green jewels in my kiln. An Odyssey cap, wheel, and ring were used as the shades mounting hardware. The base is a cast bronze reproduction of Tiffany's Library Base.
Man in the Moon
I designed and built this lamp for my wife who is an avid moon collector. It is a geometric lamp consisting of 11 rows with 36 columns and 12 moon face jewels. The shade was constructed on a 16“ full form globe mold from The H. L. Worden Company. The moon face jewels came from Delphi Glass. Stipple glass from The Youghiogheny Glass Company was used for the lamp body. An Odyssey wheel, and ring were used as mounting hardware. The moon lamp base came from a local auction and measures 18” tall.
Tiffany Arrowroot
This is an interpretation of Tiffany’s 20“ Arrowroot lamp. It was constructed using glass entirely from the Youghiogheny Glass Company. The shade was built on a 20” sectional cone mold from The H. L. Worden Company using their pattern. The leaves of the arrowroot plant were done in ripple glass to give them a more realistic appearance. The leaves were slumped in my kiln to fit onto the mold. The pottery base with applied lizards and a beautiful Grueby type green glaze was purchased at auction. It is signed and dated by Gina Howell a very talented potter from Huntington, WV. (glpottery@aol.com). The lamp base hardware was constructed using a 6“ lamp cap, 1 inch copper tubing, a 1 lb. lamp weight and a 2 light lamp cluster. The 6” lamp cap was reinforced using 1/2" brass strips soldered onto the bottom of it. The strips were bent so that it snapped into the pottery base. The cord comes through the lamp cap so that the lamp base would not have to be drilled out. The cord is vintage twisted cloth with a 2-prong plug. The whole lamp sits on a 2“ tall rosewood base which gives the lamp an overall height of 25".
Minature Dogwood

This domical shade is composed of radiating bands of richly colored tiles shading from cherry red, to cinnamon, to amber and then to yellow. A lower band is set with brilliant purple blue-amber iridescent glass spheres. The 25mm amber gold glass spheres came from www.glassmarbles.com. I designed and drew the pattern on an 18“ Oriental Poppy mold from the Odyssey Lamp Systems. The glass used in the lamp is from The Kokomo Glass Company. Catalog #46SPL. It is described as an opalescent mix of red, yellow and opal glass. An Odyssey wheel, and ring were used as mounting hardware. The base is solid cast bronze and was purchased at a local antique shop. The shade is 9”tall.
Handel Egyptian
I have always been fascinated with ancient Egypt. So, when I came across a picture of this Handel lamp with an Egyptian based theme, I knew right away that it was a lamp I had to build. There was only one problem however - NO PATTERN EXISTED! Since there was no pattern for it, I drew one up. It took quite a few tries to get the correct perspective but I finally succeeded. The final dimensions ended up being 20” across the flat sides, 10 ½” tall and a 4” square top. I incorporated a variety of glass when constructing the shade, Youghiogheny, Kokomo, Wissmach and others. I already had an original 1930’s vintage torchiere floor lamp with a marble inset base that I picked up at an auction so I removed the original mogul lamp sockets and replaced them with a homemade 4 light cluster. I then rewired the entire lamp base. Overall height of the finished lamp ended up being 5’ 5” tall.
Koi Fish
An original designed Koi Fish desk lamp. The shade was constructed using Youghiogheny glass for the background, and Kokomo glass for the fish and borders. The shade measures 8 ½” in diameter and 5 ½” tall. I used a small mixing bowl for the shades mold. The extended arm base measures 27” tall with weights added to the 6” bottom in order to prevent it from tipping over. I used 2 ¼” fitter ring to the lamp base in order to mount the shade. The base was purchased at The Pier One Company.
Wild Rose
This shade shows a band of roses set against a geometric background. The shade was constructed using a Whittmore Durgin pattern and a 20” full form mold. Youghiogheny glass was used exclusively. Each of the 6 panels measure 6“ at the bottom to 2“ at the top and the height of each panel is 7”. The alternating panels exhibit pictures of different toys usually found in a child’s bedroom, Jack-in-the Box, a Toy Soldier, and a Rocking Horse. The shades bottom has a diameter of 14“ across the flats. And the overall height of the lamp is 21”. The base was completely rewired and new bulb socket installed. This lamp base was a thrift store find.

A Tiffany Greek Key interpretation. There was no pattern for this lamp so I drew one up. The shade measures 18” in diameter and is 6” tall. It was constructed on an 18” Whittmore Durgin Company full form mold. Youghiogheny glass was used throughout the entire shade. The unique base is French manufactured and sports 3 ram heads and a marble base. It measures 21” in height and was purchased on EBAY.
Tiffany Crocus
This is reproduction of Tiffany's Crocus lamp constructed on a 14” Odyssey full form mold and pattern. The flowers and top and bottom rims are cut from Uroboros glass, while the background and stems are cut from Youghiogheny glass. Both types of glass are of the mottled (cats’ paw), variety. The lamp base was purchased at auction and it is an original " New Juno ", ca 1896 oil lamp which I converted to electricity. It has a very unusual style stand that sports three lion paw legs. The shade measures 14" in diameter and the base is about 24" in height to the top of the glass hurricane shades.
Double Shade Student
A relatively small double shade student desk lamp. This lamp was originally made as an oil lamp but I converted it too electric. Since no pattern existed, I drew one up. The lampshades were constructed on cereal bowls used as full form molds using Youghiogheny glass and small glass scarabs purchased on Etsy. The shades measure 5 1/2“ diameter and are 4“ tall with 2” openings for the chimneys. The 2 glass chimney’s measure 6“ tall. The lamp rests on a 5” marble square making the overall height of the lamp, including the chimney’s 13 1/2“ tall. The base was purchased at a local antique mall.

It is signed and dated by Gina Howell a very talented potter from Huntington, WV. (glpottery@aol.com). The lamp base has the cord coming through the lamp cap so that the lamp base would not have to be drilled out. The cord is 2 wire vintage twisted cloth with a 2-prong plug. The whole lamp sits on a 2“ tall rosewood base which gives the lamp an overall height of 22".
Jeweled Moroccan Lantern
A bit out of the ordinary is this jeweled 6 panel Moroccan lantern. The lantern by itself measures 10” tall and 4 ¼” deep. This was a thrift store find. I removed the 6 clear glass panels from it and replaced them with 6 redesigned jeweled panels using Youghiogheny glass and jewels purchased from the Harmony Glass Company. The round faceted jewels measure 11mm in diameter while the marquee shaped faceted jewels measure 15mm wide by 30mm tall. The base was originally designed as a banana stand. Not being tall enough to hang the lantern from, I cut off the existing vertical rod and welded in a redesigned one which would accommodate the hanging lantern. The new base now measures 16” tall with a bottom that measures 6” across. The lantern is illuminated with a non-electric flickering LED candle. The entire base and lantern were finished off in an oil rubbed bronze finish.
